About Yuva Sangam

Yuva Sangam is an initiative conceptualized by the PMO India to foster strong bonds between the young people belonging to various states and union territories of India. It offers the youth opportunities to learn about the rich cultural diversity of the nation through direct experiences.

The program is open to Indian citizens aged 18-30 years including students, volunteers of national service schemes, employed professionals, entrepreneurs etc. Selected participants will embark on a 5-7 day tour of another state where they will gain first-hand exposure to various aspects like tourism attractions, traditions, development milestones, people and technologies.

Origin and Objectives

The idea of initiating greater cultural interactions among Indians from different regions was put forth by PMO India in 2015. Subsequently, the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat scheme was launched in 2016.

Yuva Sangam draws inspiration from the National Education Policy 2020 which stresses on experiential learning. The key objectives include:

  • Promoting awareness about India’s pluralistic culture amongst youth
  • Building empathy and unity through interstate interactions
  • Nurturing volunteerism and leadership skills in the youth
  • Celebrating diversity of customs, languages, religions etc.

Unique Aspects of the Program

Diverse Exposure – The program offers multi-dimensional experiences under five broad themes – tourism, traditions, progress, connecting people and technology.

Experiential Learning – Participants get an immersive experience of the host state instead of superficial tours.

Collaborative Efforts – It involves coordinated efforts between various ministries and departments.

Youth Exchange – Facilitates direct dialogue and bonding between youth from different backgrounds.

Implementation and Coverage

Yuva Sangam is being organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the ministries of Culture, Tourism, Railways, Information & Broadcasting (I&B), Youth Affairs & Sports, Home Affairs etc.

Over 3000 youth from across India have already covered various states under the program so far. Phase III will see exchanges between 20 eminent educational institutes spanning 22 states and union territories.

Impact and Significance

The program has garnered tremendous response from the youth. The participants have actively volunteered for several nation-building initiatives like NEP outreach, Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav events etc.

It has kindled great enthusiasm and interstate bonding amongst the youth while making them more aware of India’s composite culture. Going forward, Yuva Sangam is poised to nurture a generation of socially conscious leaders and change-makers committed to national progress and unity.

Yuva Sangam represents a laudable effort to harness the transformative potential of India’s youth towards building an inclusive and progressive society. The program perfectly aligns with the vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat – encouraging the youth to take pride in our shared cultural heritage.
