Its lush tea gardens, lush greenery, wildlife sanctuaries and ancient temples are just some of the reasons why people visit this charming state.
Introduction
India is one of the most popular worldwide tourism destinations.
In India, tourism is a tremendously promising business. India is a nation with several tourist attractions and appealing qualities. India is renowned for its culture, history, legacy, and natural riches. There are a substantial number of domestic and international tourism destinations in every State and territory of the union.
Assam is a state in the northeastern region of India, south of the eastern Himalayas, along the Brahmaputra and Barak Valley. Assam is renowned for its tea and silk. This is where the first oil well in Asia was drilled. There is evidence of human habitation from all eras of the Stone Age in Assam and neighbouring places. The hills between 1,500 and 2,000 feet (460 and 615 m) in height were likely preferred habitats because of the availability of tool-making-useful dolerite basalt. State Profile
Assam is one of India’s 29 states and is located in the northeast. The State has an area of 78,550 square kilometres and a population of 31,169,272. Assam is bordered by Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, six of the Seven Sister States. These states are linked to the rest of India by the Siliguri Corridor in West Bengal, sometimes known as the “Chicken’s Neck.” Bhutan and Bangladesh also have international boundaries with Assam. Assam’s capital city is Dispur.
Assam’s main official languages are Assamese and Bodo. Additionally, Bengali, Nepali, Missing, Karbi, and Dimasa are often spoken in this State. Excellent physical infrastructure and a literacy rate of 73.18% contribute to the State’s high standard of living.
Physiography (Mountain and Forest) (Mountain and Forest)
Assam is dependent on the ancestral river Brahmaputra for its survival. It precedes the Himalayas in age. With its tributaries, the river with steep gorges and rapids in Arunachal Pradesh that enters Assam gets braided and forms a flood plain.
The eroded and dissected hills of Karbi Anglong, North Cachar, and the vicinity of Guwahati are remnants of the South Indian Plateau system. In the south, the Barak, which originates in the Barail Range (Assam-Nagaland boundary), runs through a 25-30 mile (40-50 km) broad valley in the Cachar region before entering Bangladesh as the Surma.
Importantly, Assam encompasses three of India’s six physiographic divisions: the Northern Himalayas (Eastern Hills), the Northern Plains (Brahmaputra plain), and the Deccan Plateau (Karbi Anglong). As the Brahmaputra runs through Assam, the temperature is chilly and rainy for the most of the month. According to geomorphological research, the Brahmaputra, the lifeblood of Assam, is an older river than the Himalayas.
The river with steep gorges and rapids in Arunachal Pradesh that enters Assam becomes braided (sometimes 10 mi/16 km wide) and, together with its tributaries, forms a flood plain. (Assam Map, Assam Map Drawing, Assam Map District wise, Assam Map with District, Assam Map in India.)
Climate The climate is characterised by intense monsoon downpours that reduce summer temperatures and cause frequent afternoon fog throughout winter nights and mornings. Spring (March to April) and autumn (September to October) often have moderate rainfall and temperatures. The agriculture of Assam is mostly dependent on the south-west monsoon rainfall.
As far as climate is concerned, Assam enjoys a lovely climate. There are four seasons, including winter, summer, spring, and fall.
• In the summer, the temperature ranges between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius. • In the winter, the temperature drops to a low of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, and there is significant precipitation and high humidity. The spring season starts in March and continues through April.
• The autumn season is often nice with modest precipitation. The season runs from September to October.
Assam has tropical rainforests, deciduous forests, riverine grasslands, bamboo orchards, and many wetland habitats, many of which are now protected as national parks and reserved forests.
Assam has saved the one-horned Indian rhinoceros, the pygmy hog, the tiger, and countless species of birds from extinction, and also offers one of the remaining natural homes for the Asian elephant. Both Manas and Kaziranga are World Heritage Sites. In the past, the State’s Sal tree forests and forest products were severely reduced. As a region with abundant rainfall, Assam is verdant.
Assam’s flora is very rich in orchid species, and the Foxtail orchid is the state flower. The newly constructed Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park is home to more than 500 of India’s estimated 1,314 orchid species.
Assam has petroleum, natural gas, coal, limestone, magnetic quartzite, kaolin, sillimanites, clay, and feldspar, among other minor minerals. In western areas, a modest amount of iron ore is accessible. All of the largest petroleum-gas deposits discovered in 1889 are located in the Upper portions. Recent USGS estimates indicate that the Assam Geologic Province has 399 million barrels (63,400,000 m3) of oil, 1,178 billion cubic feet (3.34×1010 m3) of gas, and 67 million barrels (10,700,000 m3) of natural gas liquids.
Brief history
There is evidence of human habitation from all eras of the Stone Age in Assam and neighbouring places. The presence of exposed, tool-making-useful doleritic basalt likely made the 1,500-2,000-foot-tall hills desirable habitats.
